ChallengesAusgrid's business faced critical infrastructure challenges running an aging ECC6 system for its RegulatedBusiness and S/4HANA 1809 system for Plus ES. As Australia's largest electricity distributor serving 1.8 millioncustomers, the company needed enhanced cyber security resilience and high availability disaster recoverycapabilities for their critical energy infrastructure. The initial sovereign cloud (NS2) implementation encounteredtechnical barriers, particularly around system time zone requirements that posed risks to their complex legacycodebase and integrated systems reporting to the Australian Energy Market. With growing meter volumespushing SLA boundaries and technical disaster recovery challenges for Plus ES, Ausgrid required a strategicpivot to ensure operational continuity. The company needed to establish a robust cloud foundation whilemaintaining the backbone systems that power the Sydney, Central Coast, and Hunter regions. SolutionAusgrid selected Cloud ERP (Private Edition) via Enterprise Cloud Services after pivoting from SAP Sovereign Cloud due to time zoneconstraints. The implementation involved two parallel workstreams, one for Plus ES on S/4HANA and the second for Ausgrid on ECC6executed through strong three-way partnership between with SAP and Infosys.Migrating the Plus ES S/4HANA 1809 to Enterprise Cloud Services in a 6-month project timeline included an O/S migration from RHELto SUSE Linux, PI/PO migration and upgrade of the legacy Open Text Archive Centre to the latest Open Text Cloud Archive and CoreCapture solution and migration of Solution Manager 7.2.Migrating Ausgrid ECC6 to Enterprise Cloud Services in a 9-month project timeline including an Enhancement Pack upgrade to Ehp6,Support Pack Uplift, Unicode Conversion, an O/S migration from AIX to SUSE Linux and Db migration from Oracle to HANA Db, anupgrade of the legacy Open Text Archive Centre to the latest Open Text Cloud Archive solution, also a GRC migration, Enterprise PortalMigration and BIW migration and upgrade to NW 7.5.The project scope included managing 420+ integrations including critical meter data processing systems. The team implementedcomprehensive disaster recovery architecture with short distance disaster recovery (SSDR) configuration (50km between Sydney-based primary and secondary sites). Despite initial project challenges requiring a reset, the collaborative "one-team" approachdelivered two successful go-lives with no High Priority incidents resulting in downtime post go-live. The implementation establishedimproved & simplified failover capabilities and enhanced the overall cyber security posture while aligning with Ausgrid's broader cloudmigration strategy.
