ChallengesCBA’s broker network plays a vital role in helping customers access lending services. As this channel continued to grow, so d id the need forfaster, more adaptable systems to support how broker commissions were processed and managed. At the time, key steps in these workflows were spread across several tools. This included Salesforce, MyAdvisor, MS Access, RPay andothers. These systems weren’t designed to work together end to end, so teams often had to rely on scheduled processes, file t ransfers, andmanual checks to keep everything moving. While the setup had served its purpose, it created avoidable delays and extra effort, especially when making payments, genera tingstatements, or resolving queries. Making simple changes, like adjusting payment frequency, required coordination across multi ple teamsand platforms.CBA saw an opportunity to simplify how these activities were managed bringing more control into a single environment, reducing relianceon manual steps, and supporting a more consistent experience for internal users and brokers alike. The result is a cleaner, more responsive platform that scales with demand and supports the future of broker engagement.
SolutionCBA implemented a modern, cloud-based commissions platform internally named ‘CommRem’.Built using the SAP Sales Performance Management solution, it was integrated with internal systems via secure APIs to replace manual file transfersand overnight batches with real-time payment processing. The previous payment process, which required scheduling, middleware, and downstream system handoffs, has been fully replaced. Now, oncecommission calculations are complete, payments are initiated directly from CommRem. Bank account validation and exception handling are built in,and alerts are triggered automatically in case of failure.Business users can now: View and approve payments in real time Generate statements automatically Hold or adjust payments from a single screen Trace any payment back to its original calculation instantlyIn addition to automating calculations and payments, CommRem centralises all payment activity in a single, auditable environm ent. Teams no longerneed to coordinate across systems or chase down files they have a full history of every transaction, from rule logic to disbur sement. The platform also brings flexibility. Teams can update commission plans, apply changes mid-cycle, or rerun calculations with minimal overhead. Rulesand policies are maintained within the system, reducing compliance risk and supporting consistent execution. This has significantly improved transparency and control across the commissions workflow, giving teams real -time oversight and simplifying what wasonce a highly manual, multi-step process.
Impact20,000+ brokers supported with newplatform 4 legacy systems decommissioned80% reduction in payment processingtimeThe shift to SAP SPM has delivered tangible improvements across broker payments, system management, and internal efficiency.Previously, it could take half a day and constant manual monitoring to process a batch of payments. With the new platform, CB A now processes 500 payments inaround 90 minutes, with automatic alerts and real-time responses.Statement generation, payment approvals and audit trails are now managed in one place allowing business teams to operate more independently and IT teams tofocus on support and innovation.Legacy systems including MyAdvisor, Data Loader, Tumbleweed and MS Access have been decommissioned reducing cost, risk, and complexity. The new model also gives CBA the ability to: Adjust payment frequency when needed Respond faster to broker enquiries Improve alignment between calculated commissions and actual payments Increase system resilience and scalability Strengthen compliance and reporting visibility Reduce processing risk and manual interventionThese changes support over 20,000 brokers with faster, more transparent service. The platform also enables flexibility for fu ture innovation and cost efficiency.
