Chemist Warehouse Retail is part of the Chemist Warehouse Group – one of Australia’s largest and most recognisable pharmacy retailers. With a growing presence across
Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, the group includes a diverse portfolio of brands including Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist, House of Wellness, My Beauty Spot,
ePharmacy, Market Reach, and Ultra Beauty.
Operating more than 600 stores and employing over 22,000 team members, Chemist Warehouse Retail plays a central role in delivering affordable health, beauty, and
wellness products to millions of customers. This scale is supported by a complex mix of warehouse operations, logistics, e-commerce, and a decentralised corporate
structure.
The business is built on a franchise model – one that enables rapid growth but also brings challenges around consistency, visibility, and compliance. To support its next phase
of evolution, Chemist Warehouse implemented SAP SuccessFactors as a suite of cloud-based HR modules, including Employee Central, Recruiting, and Onboarding,
supported by SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to integrate payroll and compliance systems across locations and brands.
The result is a more streamlined, connected, and insight-driven approach to people management – one that empowers store leaders, supports the employee journey at
scale, and sets the foundation for long-term growth across the region.

Streamlined Processes and System Integration
for Chemist Warehouse Retail
Human Capital Management
Challenges
Chemist Warehouse’s decentralised franchise structure created complexity for HR teams, with each entity managing recruitment, onboarding, and
compliance processes independently. Without a unified platform, teams relied on manual tools, paper-based resumes, and disconnected legacy systems,
resulting in operational inefficiencies and risks.
Behind the scenes, core HR functions were supported by fragmented systems including a custom-built application and SharePoint workflows that lacked
integration and scalability. Manual contract generation and unclear onboarding status frequently delayed new starter readiness, while employee data
varied widely across locations.
To maintain compliance and data accuracy, a team of 15 HR staff spent significant time manually reconciling data, yet reporting remained inconsistent.
Managers and leaders had limited visibility into team composition, performance, and readiness, making workforce planning challenging.
Key challenges included:
- Heavy reliance on manual, paper-based workflows and fragmented digital systems causing inefficiencies and errors
- Disconnected legacy applications unable to scale or integrate effectively
- Manual contract generation and inconsistent onboarding tracking leading to compliance risks
- Significant manual data re-entry impacting payroll and compliance accuracy
- Limited visibility for managers and leaders into workforce readiness, compliance, and performance metrics
- Inadequate workforce analytics limiting proactive planning and risk management
Without an integrated solution, Chemist Warehouse lacked a single source of truth making it difficult to plan strategically across a complex, decentralised
business.

Solution
Chemist Warehouse partnered with EPI-USE to implement SAP SuccessFactors modules including Employee Central, Recruiting, Onboarding, and
Learning Management – delivering an integrated, cloud-based HR platform.
Employee Central became the single system of record, consolidating employee data and integrating seamlessly with payroll, licensing, compliance, as
well as multiple supporting systems used across HR, finance, and operations via SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). These integrations reduce
duplication of effort, improve data accuracy, and ensure that HR processes are closely connected with broader business operations.
Recruiting and Onboarding digitised candidate management with mobile-enabled QR codes replacing paper resumes, allowing store managers to
independently post roles, review candidates, and track onboarding progress. Automated contract generation and compliance visibility ensured
readiness prior to employee start dates.
Learning Management supported role-specific training and compliance programs tailored to the retail workforce’s needs. SAP BTP facilitated integration
with third-party systems like AHPRA, Fit2Work, Vsure, and Pay Global, automating workflows and reducing manual data entry.
Key solution elements included:
- Consolidation of employee data in Employee Central providing a single, reliable source of truth
- Digitisation of hiring workflows using mobile QR codes, empowering local autonomy and efficiency
- Automation of contract creation and real-time compliance tracking enhancing onboarding readiness
- Delivery of targeted compliance and development training through Learning Management
- SAP BTP-powered integrations automating data flow between SuccessFactors and payroll, finance, operations, and compliance systems
Real-time dashboards giving managers and executives actionable workforce insights
This transformation shifted HR from manual processing to strategic enablement, empowering leaders and improving workforce agility through data
