ChallengesPreviously, every time there was a change in purchase price, Viridian’s finance team had to manually updatepurchasing info records for each plant. It was a labor-intensive process that had to be handled with accuracy toensure financial consistency across the board. The situation was further complicated by the onset of the COVID pandemic, which caused severe fluctuations inthe construction industry a primary market for Viridian. The pandemic accelerated inflation in buildingconstruction materials, requiring frequent updates to purchasing data.Updates to master data had previously been completed on an annual basis, but the company now needed toundertake these comprehensive updates every three to six months, involving up to 6,000 records at a time. Thedemand for rapid data updates highlighted the critical need for a more efficient and automated system, ultimatelyleading to the implementation of SAP S/4HANA.
SolutionThe public cloud deployment of SAP S/4HANA gave Viridian Glass access to a top-tier ERP system that mightnot have been possible otherwise. An on-premise or even private cloud model wasn’t realistically achievable fora business of its size and it would potentially have had to settle for a less comprehensive finance-only product. In its effort to streamline data updates, the company experimented with process automation and then switchedto API-based solutions, developed in collaboration with Capgemini, which proved more efficient, processing6,000 records in about three hours. This method efficiently managed updates by feeding data directly from apredefined spreadsheet, simplifying and accelerating the data management process significantly.
