Semih's Story

At SAP, we build breakthroughs, together.

At SAP, I am surrounded by growth-oriented individuals in an environment of trust and am proud to be part of this positive, welcoming and diverse community.

Semih Sezer

Semih Sezer is a Senior Software Engineer at SAP Analytics Cloud, based in Vancouver, Canada. His team provides the infrastructure components for other teams and also manages data pipelines for collecting KPIs about SAP’s operations and business. Thanks to the end-to-end ownership of components, he has developed a diverse skill set ranging from full-stack development to data engineering, DevOps to infrastructure orchestration.

Semih is originally from Turkey and moved to Vancouver to study Economics at the University of British Columbia. Being very passionate about the models and data analysis in Economics, he started taking Computer Science courses to improve his technical skills further. This led to a double major in Economics and Computer Science, which he is very happy about because Computer Science gave him the power to turn ideas into reality. Prior to his current position, he has done two internships at SAP, one as a Developer and one as a Product Manager intern and have transitioned into his full-time role in February 2018.

When asked about what attracted him to SAP, he shared how SAP plays a key role as a data company, but what makes him stay is the people and the growth opportunities. He is surrounded by growth-oriented individuals in an environment of trust and is proud to be part of this positive, welcoming and diverse community. He has autonomy and ownership in his work, which allows him to bring creative solutions to the table. He strongly believes that SAP truly values its people and recognizes that they are not just employees, but also individuals, partners, and parents. The benefits and growth opportunities allow employees to develop their careers alongside their personal lives, not at the expense of. Finally, SAP invests in its employees via various programs for formal or experiential learning, not only for improving skills for their current roles, but also for their future career paths. All of this makes SAP a great place for lifelong learning and growth.

Semih is deeply passionate about starting entrepreneurship initiatives and bringing new ideas to life. He loves that SAP empowers employees to create change via its innovation culture and Accelerator programs. In his team’s monthly innovation days and in his free time, he built an application platform - Usage Explorer - that can discover patterns in SAP product usage data to help better understand our customers and improve our products with these key insights. Collaborating with two other colleagues, the team of three submitted Usage Explorer to SAP’s CreateX Accelerator where it was selected as the winning idea, and they have a 6-month fellowship to build a small team and work on the project full-time. Semih and his team also had the chance to participate in the NVT Accelerator, where they learned a lot from the community of like-minded entrepreneurs and mentors. It has been a tremendous learning opportunity and a unique experience where the team had the chance to bring their idea to life within SAP without having to leave their full-time jobs. In addition, Usage Explorer project is the Top 3 Finalists for SAP’s Hasso Plattner Founders’ 2020 Award in the Products and Technology category, which is a great honor. It’s an outstanding achievement and exemplifies SAP’s belief in the power of employee-driven innovation.

In his free time, Semih loves going outdoors for hiking and camping to enjoy nature, travelling and filmmaking. He also enjoys reading a good book on psychology, product design or personal development over a warm cup of coffee. Being a curious learner, he loves exploring new technologies in his free time and frequently works on side projects related to his interest areas such as data science and language learning.

We build breakthroughs, together.

Meet Ashley, one of Semih’s colleagues who he collaborated on Usage Explorer. Ashley works alongside the Intelligent Enterprise Solutions team conducting usability testing and design with users and turning these insights into data to help product development teams improve the SAP user experience.
