Mindsprint: Building code excellence and developer productivity with an AI-enabled development cycle
Delivering innovation at speed and scale
As the team at Mindsprint Pte. Ltd. grew, keeping development practices consistent, code reviews thorough, and quality high became an increasingly complex challenge. By embedding the SAP Joule for Developers add-on to the SAP Build solution as a mandatory part of its development lifecycle, Mindsprint has enabled its development team to be more productive and innovative.

Breaking through a quality ceiling
Mindsprint is a technology services provider and an SAP partner that provides consulting services, with a team of approximately 100 developers working with the ABAP programming language. The team works work across a growing portfolio of customer accounts, streamlining the supply chain, enhancing customer experiences, and enabling smarter decision-making.
The company’s development team faced the challenge of inconsistent workflows. Developers worked in their own way with a mix of traditional approaches, partial adoption of best practices, and varying levels of inline commenting. Modern syntax and object-oriented constructs were not uniformly applied, and there was no standardized approach to help ensure that every piece of code delivered met the same quality bar.
The consequences showed up across the development lifecycle. Technical specification preparation was time-consuming and unstructured, requiring significant developer effort to convert functional specifications into detailed technical documents. Test cases tended to cover only positive scenarios and were not grounded in real SAP data, limiting their usefulness in quality assurance. Moreover, code reviews—a critical checkpoint for any development team—were constrained by time. Manually reviewing a full program in ABAP took two to three hours, meaning that development leads could only check delta changes rather than validate entire programs end to end.
There was also no systematic way to identify performance bottlenecks in code before review or go-live, resulting in issues surfacing later in the process, having not been caught early. At the same time, a clean core strategy—increasingly important for customers on the RISE with SAP journey—was still being adopted, and checks using ABAP test cockpit were not yet a consistent part of the team’s workflow.
Like many development organizations navigating the shift to modern SAP software standards, Mindsprint recognized that individual developer practices, however capable, could only take the team so far. A more structured, consistent approach was needed that could raise the quality bar across the entire team rather than relying on individual habits and experience.
Embedding SAP Joule for Developers across the development lifecycle
When Mindsprint began its journey with SAP Joule for Developers, rather than treat the add-on as an optional tool, it made it mandatory for all new developments in ABAP. For change requests, SAP Joule for Developers is applied where the scope warrants it, with the team progressively widening this to cover more change requests over time. The add-on is embedded across every stage of the development lifecycle, from technical specification preparation and code generation through to code review and test-case generation, making it a central part of how the team works.
For report development and CDS view creation, developers feed functional specifications directly into SAP Joule for Developers, generating code using modern 7.4 and 7.5 syntax, object-oriented constructs, and inline commenting. Technical specification preparation works in both directions: from functional specification to technical document, or from existing code to technical documentation. In both cases, SAP Joule for Developers produces structured, SAP-specific breakdowns that the team has directly compared favorably against similar AI tools. For instance, where other tools provided a general technical response, it provides the business process context and the system-specific detail that developers need.
For code review, lead developers submit full programs to SAP Joule for Developers and receive performance observations, best-practice flags, and quality feedback in return. For test-case generation, it produces both positive and negative edge-case scenarios populated with real-time, SAP-relevant data. Beyond these core use cases, SAP Joule for Developers is also in active use for enhancements, interfaces, workflows, and forms. Meanwhile, checking clean core compliance has recently been added as the team’s newest use case.

Delivering measurable business impact with SAP Joule for Developers
The impact of Mindsprint’s adoption of SAP Joule for Developers is measurable across the board. Development time has reduced by 60% to 80% for reports and approximately 60% for CDS views. For enhancements, interfaces, workflows, and forms, efficiency gains range from 10% to 30%, depending on the object type. Code review time has been reduced by 20% to 25% overall, with full program reviews—previously a task that took two to three hours—now completed in minutes and embedded as standard practice across the team.
The productivity gains also translate directly into business impact. A development team that is 60% to 80% faster on report development, supported by AI-assisted code review and test-case generation, is able to handle a meaningfully larger workload without a corresponding increase in headcount. This increases Mindsprint’s capacity to support more customers and deliver projects faster.
The journey has also been shaped by the quality of the partnership with SAP. The team credits its engagement with the Enterprise Architect team as a key enabler of its ability to adopt SAP Joule for Developers at pace and depth. This includes participation in the AI hackathon hosted by SAP in Bangalore, India, and direct exposure to the Joule Studio solution at the SAP Sapphire event.

Expanding the mandate and moving toward agentic AI
Mindsprint’s next steps are focused on deepening and broadening what SAP Joule for Developers already does well. In the near term, the team is working to expand the mandate from new developments to a wider set of change requests and increase the list of mandatory items within the usage standard. In addition, it continues to develop its clean core approach alongside checks with ABAP test cockpit. On net-new customer accounts, usage is being extended as those engagements scale.
The team is also evaluating agent-to-agent capabilities in Joule Studio. With the Joule solution already delivering meaningful results, the team sees Joule Studio as a significant step forward and is anticipating what it will make possible as AI adoption continues to mature.
