Endress+Hauser: Achieving a higher level of operational efficiency and customer satisfaction with a cloud-only approach
Evaluating how best to access disparate data
As a supplier of precision measurement devices, Endress+Hauser wanted to provide its global workforce with access to lifecycle and product data for its more than 75 million instruments. By deploying SAP HANA Cloud, the company has unified data from its multiple systems, enabling real-time analytics, asset-lifecycle tracking, and data-driven insights.

Addressing restricted data access, system limitations, and disparate data
Endress+Hauser produces high-quality measurement devices for process industries and sectors, including wastewater; chemicals; life sciences; oil and gas; power and energy; mining, minerals, and metals; and food and beverages. The Swiss-based family-run business helps customers across more than 125 countries better control their processes by measuring factors such as temperature, flow, and pressure in real time. This allows customers to optimize their operations and be more energy efficient and sustainable.
The wealth of customer data collected by the company on asset lifecycles was siloed in multiple internal systems, and its data consolidation was manual. Information gathered ranged from the production date, measurement principle, configuration, customer order, and delivery date to the service and repair history of an instrument.
A lack of data integration, complex product selection, manual defect tracking, and delayed service responses were hindering both operational efficiency and the customer experience. Endress+Hauser wanted to provide real-time, unified, and secure access to its lifecycle and product data for more than 75 million instruments used by its customers globally. However, the company was increasingly restricted by its on-premises legacy application, which lacked the scalability and flexibility required for modern digital operations. Its system struggled to manage the high volume of lifecycle events, numbering more than 15 million annually, and it had limited search functionality. Furthermore, software updates were slow, while connecting with newer enterprise platforms was difficult.

Embedding a cloud-based aggregation backbone into the data landscape
Endress+Hauser adopted SAP HANA Cloud, enabling a central data aggregation and business intelligence layer. The cloud-native architecture unifies and structures information from its multiple internal systems, enabling real-time analytics, asset-lifecycle tracking, and data-driven insights across the company.
A data hub in SAP HANA Cloud provides the business with a single source of truth for its applications and allows it to replicate information in real time, especially from its ERP systems. SAP HANA smart data integration helps Endress+Hauser cleanse and transform data. With the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model framework and SAP Fiori elements, the device manufacturer can rapidly develop SAP Fiori apps that can be run on SAP HANA Cloud. Innovations benefiting its employees include a product lens that detects serial defects early using service and production data, as well as an asset central viewer that consolidates a lifecycle view of its enterprise-wide assets. A product guide can point customers to the right instrument for their requirements through a unified workflow, while the QuickSelect feature offers an AI-enabled product configurator to help simplify instrument selection. The tool uses the predictive analytics library in SAP HANA Cloud to configure devices according to customer needs.
Endress+Hauser has deployed SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), including the SAP Analytics Cloud solution to enable intuitive dashboards for reporting on data quality, sustainability, and other factors. It’s also using SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh to allow its applications to communicate asynchronously in real time across distributed landscapes. The company can now update its systems and employees with important new business data from both its core SAP solutions and third-party software.
Endress+Hauser is planning to implement the SAP Datasphere solution and combine data from SAP HANA Cloud and third-party systems.

Taking operational efficiency and the customer experience to the next level
Using SAP HANA Cloud, which is part of the SAP Business Data Cloud solution, Endress+Hauser has transformed its legacy application into an agile, future-ready digital platform. The cloud-based integration and real-time data orchestration help the company achieve operational efficiencies, scalability, innovation, and a better customer experience. Now, the company can provide unified global access to up-to-date asset master data on a mobile device, allowing technicians to carry out their work without connecting to a back-end system using a virtual private network. More than 1,500 active daily users are taking advantage of the asset central viewer. Endress+Hauser believes it can enable 50% faster data access due to fine, granular search functionalities, driving improved decision-making. With a unified data model underpinning multiple applications, the business can prepare data two times faster than before. And using pre-aggregated data allows it to triple the speed of IT project onboarding.
The asset central viewer has enhanced the company’s asset management capabilities as well as transparency across each instrument’s lifecycle. Early defect detection with the product lens helps increase product quality, customer satisfaction, and speed in resolving service tickets. The product guide allows customers to navigate a complex and varied product range, and the QuickSelect feature streamlines product selection and online buying by making the configuration process approximately 60% faster. The company has been able to shorten its development cycles, with an estimated four weeks saved for each application rollout. And the modular architecture allows it to reuse applications on other platforms.
With SAP Analytics Cloud, Endress+Hauser has transitioned to a modern, integrated, and future‑ready reporting environment, helping enrich data quality and automating sustainability reporting.
