Cranfield University is the only postgraduate university in the UK. It has a global reputation for inspirational teaching and research, industrial-scale facilities and superior links with industry and commerce. Cranfield is one of the early adopters of SAP in postgraduate teaching. The contract between Cranfield and SAP started in 1999, before the UKI University Alliances Programme was established. The typical course structure includes 60% industry sponsored group and individual project work. In 2007-8, students worked with companies including Airbus, Dixons Store Group, Ford, Hallmark Cards, Jaguar, McKinsey and Rolls-Royce.

The SAP experience has been invaluable in offering students greater confidence in integrating enterprise systems and business processes, and dealing with the complex business management and implementation issues in industry projects. Based on IDES, Cranfield has developed a specialised set of learning materials and examples to ensure students develop an appreciation of the concept of operations management and how this is enabled through the SAP ERP.

In addition, from 2008, Cranfield students are eligible for support towards SAP certification at a much reduced cost, through the University Alliance Programme. This has had enthusiastic take up from the student body.
