SAP Community Network is SAP’s professional social network, orchestrating connections between SAP customers, partners, employees and experts. These communities play an integral role in the SAP ecosystem. Members use the power of social networking to tap into a broad network of peers to gather advice and knowledge to help solve their business problems.
The University Alliances program in the UK and Ireland was started in 2004 when Coventry University joined as the very first member. Since then the program has grown from strength to strength with 40+ full members. The UK is a particularly diverse program with members showing particular interest in ERP, Business Objects, Supply Chain management, Customer Relationship Management and Netweaver. The UK also has equal numbers of undergraduate and postgraduate students with many postgraduate students coming from India, China, Africa, the Middle East and increasingly Eastern Europe.
Historically the UK has been tremendously enthusiastic about taking advantage of the offers for tickets to SAP events such as TechEd and SAPPHIRE often with up to 50% of such tickets for EMEA events being taken by lecturers form UK member universities. Often these are technical lecturers but we have a strong participation from lecturers in business – particularly strategic management, MIS and Operations.
UK and Irish students have also show great creativity in reaching out to their fellow students either during internships or placements or as ambassadors to specific programs within their own universities raising the awareness not only of SAP but of the ICT industry as a whole and the opportunities in the UK and Ireland for excellent career starts.
The Irish program is incredibly strong, largely due to the local enthusiasm and participation of the SAP Service and Support Centre, Apphaus and Labs network based in Dublin and Galway. Irish colleagues continue to offer lectures to local universities and Its, support the participation in University Alliances competitions and events, hold information sessions and career days, Innojams (competitive coding jam sessions for students) and work with local companies such as ESB and Colgate Palmolive.
