SAP Research:

Systematic Thought Leadership for Innovative Business

SAP Research is a worldwide organization that identifies emerging IT trends, conducts vital research and development for new technologies, and fosters the best entrepreneurial talent to support future growth.

The organization is divided into two key areas: SAP Research Centers and SAP Inspire.

SAP Research Centers

SAP Research Centers support SAP's long-term strategy through technology research. Their goal is to establish SAP as the thought leader in innovative, breakthrough information technology.

SAP Research Centers study IT trends and deploy new technologies in real-life environments to determine their potential business value for SAP. As a result, we are able to introduce new technology and concepts for future solutions that will be strategically important to SAP -- and our customers.

Currently, SAP Research Centers have identified the following seven research programs as strategic for SAP:

  • Software engineering and architecture
  • Knowledge management
  • Enterprise services and semantics
  • Human/computer interaction
  • Business process modeling and management
  • Smart items research
  • Security and trust

SAP Inspire

SAP Inspire is responsible for contributing to SAP's long-term growth and leadership by identifying entrepreneurial talent within SAP's ranks. Built on a corporate venture model, SAP Inspire supports entrepreneurs here at SAP, allowing them to develop ideas for new technologies.

SAP Inspire seeks new growth opportunities that are in synch with SAP's overall corporate vision but not part of the current SAP portfolio. We support the best and brightest people through the entire innovation process, from idea generation to go-to-market strategy -- and success.

SAP Research is headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, with additional facilities in Palo Alto, CA, United States; Montréal, Canada; Karlsruhe, Germany; Brisbane, Australia; Sophia Antipolis, France; and Johannesburg, South Africa.
