Open Letter to Customers of Business Objects
To Customers of Business Objects,
On October 7, 2007 SAP AG and Business Objects S.A. reached an agreement, that when finalized, will bring together two market leaders. The press release of this announcement can be found here. At the time of this letter, SAP has received U.S. Antitrust regulatory approval. We await the responses from additional, relevant regulatory bodies which are due in the coming weeks. SAP expects to commence its tender offer for Business Objects Securities in December 2007 and, assuming satisfaction of relevant conditions, we will look to gain control of Business Objects in the first quarter 2008.
Our focus has been and remains customer success, return on investment and satisfaction. During this time between announcing our intentions and the close of the transaction, we must adhere to guidelines regarding communication which will limit sharing many planning details with you now. Please know that the additional information regarding specific product, go-to-market and other details will be provided after the transaction has been completed during the first quarter of 2008. In the interest of offering as much communication as possible, we would like to provide some assurances to the Business Objects customers.
Our plan is to make the combination of our companies a win-win for all. We strive to be as transparent as possible while we work on your behalf to deliver immediate and added value. As a start, the primary objectives of the SAP Group are to improve the overall portfolio and services in our core enterprise application software business as well as our offering for the small and midsize enterprise segment.
With our planned acquisition of Business Objects, together we will be able to offer customers an unbeatable combination of Business Objects' expertise in BI tools, operational analytics, data management and performance management combined with SAP's expertise in business software, governance, risk and compliance, performance management, and industry solutions. We believe that these offerings will bring to market a leading set of products to support business users.
After acquiring control of Business Objects, SAP Group will protect your investments in Business Objects solutions just as we protect the investments of the SAP customers. While we expect to bring additional value to all customers through this acquisition, we want to assure the Business Objects customers that the products you have purchased from Business Objects, or intend to purchase from Business Objects at this time, will receive continued support after the close of the transaction in accordance with your contract with Business Objects.
Specifically the SAP Group is committed to the following principles:
- Operating Business Objects as a stand-alone entity based on open standards within the SAP Group.
- Continuing to invest in the Business Objects' product line while delivering targeted services and customer support.
- Maintaining support for choice in heterogeneous databases, middleware, and application platforms (whether they are SAP or non-SAP based).
- Deliver a broad suite that spans planning, financial consolidation, governance, risk and compliance, profitability, business analytics, BI search and query, reporting, and data integration, all on a unified and open BI platform.
- Make available to our joint partner ecosystems, the advantages of the combination of our applications and technology, worldwide resources, and increased partner investments to enable and enhance your business.
Our expectation is that existing Business Objects contacts - professional services, support, sales, and development, will remain consistent for you. More information including Customer Care numbers can be found at businessobjects.com/support.
While we ready ourselves for a potential transaction close in Q1 2008 and the subsequent integration activities throughout 2008, please know that together the SAP and Business Objects team will keep a central focus on making this transition successful in the eyes of our customers. Please do not hesitate to contact me, my management team, John Schwarz or his management team at any time if you have questions about the road ahead.
Thank you for your continued support and business.
Sincerely,
Henning Kagermann
SAP CEO and member of the Executive Board of SAP AG
