Savannah Cement Limited, headquartered in Nairobi, competes in one of the most competitive markets in Kenya. Concrete is the most used man-made material in the world with about three tons used annually for each man, woman, and child. Twice as much concrete is utilized around the world than the total number of all other building materials, including wood, steel, plastic, and aluminum. It’s energy efficient to produce, affordable, low-maintenance, fire-resistant, strong, and versatile.

The plant is strategically placed near Nairobi, which accounts for 50% of Kenya’s cement consumption. Savannah Cement is not only designed to make the best use of green technology, but is also focused on revolutionizing environmental management in the regional Cement Industry.
The company aspires to be the cement of choice in the region and will be actively engaged in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

Enter SAP: The SAP Experience
To keep pace with future trends and increase efficiency, Savannah Cement partnered with SAP to deploy SAP ERP powered by SAP HANA. Previously, Savannah Cement executed 80% of orders outside of the target turnaround timeframe. Now, after only five months running on the SAP HANA platform, Savannah Cement is finishing 48% more orders within the promised timeframe—with progress only expected to increase.
In addition, database handling and functionality have drastically improved. The result is lower administrative costs, fewer operational meetings, and faster end-of-period reporting.

Breaking Ground in Groundbreaking New Ways
Savannah Cement has confirmed plans to invest more than 18 billion Kenyan shillings (~US$195 million) in the installation of a second high efficiency milling plant at its existing manufacturing complex, which will feature advanced roller press technology for eco-friendly cement production.
Savannah Cement is additionally planning the groundbreaking of a new clinker manufacturing plant in 2015. According to Ronald Ndegwa, Managing Director of Savannah Cement, the installation of the second milling plant and the clinker production facility is part of the company's strategy to operate a fully integrated cement manufacturing business. Ndegwa further noted that Savannah Cement would be expanding its product range in order to meet customers' demands.
