SAP for Consumer Products

Regulatory Compliance

Food safety and traceability is about more than simply complying with regulatory requirements. It's about maintaining consumer confidence, ensuring a competitive supply chain, and enabling profitable growth.

SAP solutions for governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) support the consumer products industry's requirements to predict and prevent financial and environmental risks, increase business performance, and drive competitive advantage. To meet these objectives and ensure corporate sustainability, SAP solutions for GRC unify corporate strategy, risk management, and control initiatives across the extended enterprise.

SAP solutions give you the capabilities you need to comply with the growing amount of government legislation and safety initiatives that affect the food and personal care industries. They also enable you to avoid costly product recalls, build trusted brands, and create shareholder value.

SAP solutions enable compliance with the following food regulations:

  • Bioterrorism Act – The U.S. Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 requires organizations to track the immediate sources of raw materials of their food products and the immediate recipients of any products they produce. SAP addresses these requirements through the quality management feature of SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM) and the coordination feature of SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM).

The Bioterrorism Act also requires that organizations notify the U.S. FDA before they import food products into the United States. This notification can be delivered electronically by SAP GRC Global Trade Services.

  • General Food Law Regulation 178/2002 – The European Union's General Food Law Regulation 178/2002 establishes requirements and procedures for food safety, including the ability to trace materials back to the source producer. SAP addresses these requirements through the quality management feature of SAP PLM and the coordination feature of SAP SCM.
