    • Burda Digital Systems is an IT partner for the, for one of the biggest publishers within German and within the European world. It's named Burda Media. But we are not only providing IT solutions for Burda itself, but also for external companies. We had the situation that in the media industry you had a big pressure. The sales are decreasing, the circulations are decreasing, and we are faced with the situation that we have to go to different strategies, we have to get more operational excellence for getting the costs reduced. But you also have to generate new business for the print media. The strategic objective has been that we wanted to have operational excellence, and we wanted to have new business processes. We wanted to have new business models for our customers, and we wanted to provide new services for our customers. For this, we decided that the Enterprise SOA approach was right for us, because we then modernized the whole process and then we had these modules and we can combine this business modules to new business processes. After we had this process model described in our business process step, we then decided that we want to have the Enterprise SOA approach from SAP. So we said, OK, we now have these process models, and we want to build up this in Enterprise SOA modules from SAP. We have a pool of defined enterprise services. We can combine them in a very easy way this well-defined enterprise services to new business processes. So Enterprise SOA from SAP enabled us in a way getting really faster and more flexible for our customer and providing new solutions in very fast way. The external publishing company don't want to outsource the whole process, but just the task of sending out this printing magazines, to us. We can just put this single step from the whole process and have this outtasking step, and there we have a new business model. So we can provide to more external companies a service, a new service. And we have not been able before, without Enterprise SOA, because it was a whole process, including all the steps, and the steps depend on the other steps. And afterwards we had this capsulated process steps and can provide one single step to an external customer. The key performance measurements for Hubert Burda Media was to decrease the costs by 20% and to increase the efficiency from the employees of Hubert Burda Media by 30% to 40%. And was really shown by this project that we have been able by implementing an Enterprise SOA project to decrease the costs in fact by 20% and we increased the efficiency by 30% from Hubert Burda Media. And furthermore, we had the situation that we gained new external customers, new publishing companies.
