One of the main pillars of who we are…


  • 2003 KEEN was founded by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst.
  • 2004KEEN donated their entire annual advertising budget (about US$1 million) to the relief efforts following the tsunami that struck southeast Asia, starting what became the HybridCare program.
  • 2006Moved headquarters from Alameda, California to Portland, Oregon.
  • 2010Opened a plant in Portland to begin manufacturing some of their products in the United States.
  • 2012KEEN HybridCare organized relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy in New York: coordinating 2,300 volunteers and donating 7,500 pairs of shoes, 2,500 pairs of socks, and US$15,000 to the American Red Cross.

KEEN’s philosophy is reflected in over 300 styles of footwear and accessories, from bags made out of recycled rice paper and airbags, to seamless left and right socks that feel custom fitted. KEEN products are currently sold in more than 5,000 stores in over 60 countries.

KEEN began by asking a simple design question:
Can a sandal protect the toes? The answer was yes.
The answer was the Newport – the first hybrid sandal.

KEEN’s legacy enterprise software could not keep up, especially given KEEN’s desire to seamlessly collaborate with their supply and retail partners to ensure that products were reaching their many fans around the world.

For the first time, KEEN can directly ship their products from their production facilities to retailers around the world. KEEN also relies on the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence suite to provide teams across the company with comprehensive analysis and reporting; reports can now be run in minutes, not hours, and the information is always current and reliable.

KEEN is using the data from the SAP solutions to better predict demand and ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time; this lowers costs and increases customer satisfaction. KEEN can now plan production requirements with greater precision and with more lead time for product runs.

Journey Ahead

Growing together

KEEN plans to start using the SAP Advanced Planning & Optimization component to further improve demand planning and execution. The company also wants to use the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation application to enhance company-wide performance and decision making.


The scalability of SAP Business All-in-One will make it simple to integrate these new solutions and it will continue to grow with the company.
