Smithfield Foods Consolidates Legacy Systems onto Single SAP FOOTPRINT

April 21, 2009 – With sales of $12 billion, Smithfield Foods is the leading processor and marketer of fresh pork and packaged meats in the U.S., as well as the largest producer of hogs. While the global recession has not negatively impacted Smithfield, whose popular brands include Butterball Turkey, Farmland, and Armour, the skyrocketing costs of commodities – grain and corn that feeds Smithfield's hogs – most certainly has. In an effort to control costs and expand business, Smithfield is marching forward with an ambitious IT strategy that aims to standardize and consolidate numerous IT legacy systems, inherited through multiple mergers and acquisitions, onto an integrated SAP footprint.
