SAP Research Zurich is situated centrally in the city and close to the heart of Switzerland's academic hub – the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). The location was founded in April 2007 as a strategic investment in the collaboration with ETH Zurich, a long-standing partner of great expertise.
The primary goal of the research location in Zurich is to conduct application-oriented research in joint projects with academic and research partners, which are drawn from all over Europe. While it generates quality outputs in many domains, the location is providing special expertise in the major areas of the Internet of Things and Smart Items. One highlight of the combined efforts, the Future Retail Center (FRC), employs RFID and different sensor and mobile technologies. The FRC, located at the SAP location in Regensdorf and near SAP Research Zurich, shows a real-world supermarket where a multitude of scenarios concerning retail trade, logistics, and storage of goods can be tested in-vivo or presented live to customers to prove suitability for daily use.
