SAP Research Ra'anana (Israel) was established in 2008 and is co-located with SAP Labs Israel. The group is engaged in EU FP7 research projects in the information and communication technology (ICT) space, as well as in shorter-term advanced prototyping projects.
The Israeli group focuses on the following research areas:
- Technology infrastructure – SAP is investigating new models of deployment using cloud, virtualization, and multitenancy. In addition, the modern SAP landscape relies on state-of-the-art main memory, columnar databases. We are looking into distributed shared-memory technology in order to obtain very large-scale, yet cost-effective main memory architectures.
- Semantic Web and business applications – There are benefits in applying semantic technologies in service-oriented architectures and business applications. The areas of semantic interoperability and service compositions are promising candidates. Semantic technologies can be applied to harmonize different content sources – improving enterprise information management and increasing the productivity of information workers.
- Analytics in the context of business intelligence (BI) – This new activity is predicated on the observation that SAP's business applications can serve as an excellent platform for generating, analyzing, and presenting added-value information to information workers and decision makers. The activity blends theoretical foundation, interaction with SAP customers, innovation, and ease of use.
