SAP Research Pretoria, established in 2005, is the first SAP Research location in a developing region. It is a leading, globally-recognized research institute in the field of Internet applications and services for emerging economies (BRICS and Africa). By demonstrating innovation and creating impact for stakeholders, researchers in Pretoria are contributing to the development of the new generation of SAP products and services that can support socioeconomic development in up-and-coming regions.
SAP Research Pretoria is conducting projects in the field using the living labs methodology – working directly with end users in emerging economies to improve their livelihood.
Research Environment – Working with World-Class Researchers
SAP Research Pretoria has a strong collaborative relationship with the Department of Science and Technology and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research of the South African Government. A number of recognized senior researchers at South African universities are appointed in a part-time capacity to work at SAP Research Pretoria, furthering the group's research capacity building efforts. In addition, the Human Capital Development Program provides Ph.D. and masters students with the opportunity to contribute toward a wide range of topics over multiple disciplines, ranging from computer science to gender studies.
In collaboration with its strong internal and external ecosystem, researchers in Pretoria are investigating the topics of e-energy, e-education, and m-health within the context of very small enterprises in emerging economies. A special emphasis is placed on cloud computing, mobile, on-demand, and on-device technologies.
