SAP Research Darmstadt was founded in January 2005. Darmstadt, located between the SAP headquarters in Walldorf and the international hub of Frankfurt/Main, was selected by SAP Research to collaborate more closely with academic partners, research institutions, and industrial partners in the region. This move has reinforced SAP's long-standing relationship with researchers at TU Darmstadt – spanning over 20 years – and our strategic interest in their areas of investigation.
The research topics software engineering and tools, internet applications and services, and mobile computing and user experience focus on:
- New methods and tools supporting incremental software development
- Efficient and transparent software development processes
- Quality management and non-functional aspects of software engineering
- Urban management – new concepts for the future of our cities
- Adaptive, reusable, and dynamic process management in changing urban contexts
- New interaction paradigms for business contexts
- Advanced user support and user experience
The goal is to create intelligent software environments within the business context that will react sensitively and adaptively to changes – offering users many-sided or entirely new services.
SAP Research Darmstadt also manages and houses the Future Public Security Center living lab.
Research Environment – Working with World-Class Researchers
SAP Research Darmstadt is tightly connected to other research locations within SAP and has excellent relations to local research institutions, such as Fraunhofer IGD, and to regional industry and academic partners through the Software-Cluster. In addition, a special Ph.D. program has been established where SAP Research and TU Darmstadt closely cooperate with each other.
