 SAP Research Brisbane is SAP's first research location in the Asia-Pacific region. Its mission is to leverage Australian and Asia-Pacific expertise in applied technology research and make it available to SAP and partners worldwide. Due to their co-location with the SAP Field organization, Brisbane researchers have the advantage of daily interaction with sales and consulting staff. This helps them gain direct access to customer and partner projects, which ensures the real-life applicability of research ideas. SAP Research Brisbane stays in close contact with SAP product groups and has successfully transferred research results into SAP solutions for sustainability, SAP CRM, SAP NetWeaver, and SAP Business ByDesign.

Striving for research excellence, SAP Research Brisbane is engaged in various local and international activities contributing to the global success of SAP. Based on a strong co-innovation approach, the location's team is part of a research community of global excellence that collaborates with experts in their fields on various levels – internally within SAP Research and SAP product groups, as well as externally with local small businesses and midsize companies, universities, and government/research bodies.
Strong academic partnerships with universities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region are a main reason for the Brisbane location's success. Since the late 1990s, trusted relationships exist with the University of Queensland (UQ) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Research expertise has been pooled in numerous collaborative projects contributing to SAP's strategic objectives and helping our customers implement their vision of the future. SAP Research sponsors scholarships at UQ and QUT, students work on SAP-related topics in the SAP office, and both universities value the partnership with associate professorships of SAP Research staff.
The Australian Research Council (ARC) provides a valuable framework for undertaking collaborative research projects. Success stories include ARC linkage projects with UQ, QUT, Monash University (Melbourne), and the University of New South Wales (Sydney). Apart from Australian partners, SAP Research Brisbane also teams up with academic and industrial partners from EU projects and foreign universities. Beyond Australia, research in Asia-Pacific is gaining more and more importance as the location serves as SAP's research hub for the region.
