SAP Research Living Labs

Future Public Security Center

The Future Public Security Center opened on November 19, 2008 at SAP Research Darmstadt in Germany. The lab is a joint effort between SAP Research and academic partners and future users to create user-oriented solutions for civil protection and emergency response. It is designed to experiment with technologies that impact IT support during major disasters and crisis management.

One research project currently featured in the Future Public Security Center is SoKNOS. SoKNOS strives to create solutions that allow clear-sighted, fast, and effective action in a catastrophic event. SoKNOS aims to develop concepts that are valuable in the support of cross-organizational collaboration and communication between government agencies, private companies, and other organizations active in the public security sector.

The Future Public Security Center provides insight into future IT trends that support user interaction for effective crisis management. One of the center's highlights is the multi-touch wall, which provides precise area maps, as well as information about the number and location of relief units. These multi-functional walls could be the tool for the "workplace of the future" in the public security sector.
