  • Hands-On Research Prototypes

Along with guided tours, the Future Energy Center provides a showroom with hands-on research prototypes and demo installations. The showroom highlights innovative research results in the areas of energy management, resource management, electric mobility, and smart grids. Visitors can experience these topics from different perspectives, such as from a production site, an office, a utility control room, a home, and an electric car.

    Exhibits include:

    • Research at SAP provided and maintained by project teams demonstrating, for example, new platforms for energy management and mobility solutions
    • Integrated SAP products and selected partner demos
    • Windows to the real world: a real-time look into offsite research trials, for example, with electric cars

  • Future Energy Topics

New business models are emerging and call for innovative IT solutions. Our economy and society need a secure and sustainable energy supply. Research at SAP, in collaboration with academic and industry partners, is conducting several collaborative research projects that address the following challenges:

    • Energy markets and energy efficiency: Smart grid technologies for the Internet of Energy and IT for "smart houses"
    • E-mobility: Infrastructures for the accounting and billing of charging processes and support of mobility services
    • Resource management: IT innovations for energy-efficient manufacturing and energy data management and service provisioning for bid management, forecasts, and planning

  • Future Energy Center Partners

Meet our industry and academic partners and find out what they think about the Future Energy Center.

"When SAP asked us for our participation in the Future Energy Center we were immediately enthusiastic about the idea to cooperate with great partners that also compile new solutions in the field of sustainability. That way, we cannot only demonstrate our innovative charging station for electric cars, but also make early contact with other parties involved in the topic."

    – Wilfried Krake, Director ABW Gehäusetechnik GmbH, and Frank Thurecht, Head of Technology Development Antriebs- und Regeltechnik GmbH, ART

    MVV Energie

"The Future Energy Center in Karlsruhe offers the unique possibility to meet interesting research partners from the same area and to identify new interfaces where we can interact and support joint stakeholders in future activities. Such excellent cooperation not only facilitates our work but creates room for new ideas. We are looking forward to giving Future Energy Center visitors an insight into our Energy Butler."

    – Sebastian Warkentin, Innovation Manager, MVV Energie

    SRH Hochschule Heidelberg

"Exchanging ideas between academic researchers at SRH and industry, such as SAP, helps us to address new potential partners that are active in the field of future energy and could benefit from our Gravity Storage Power Plant model. What I particularly like about the Future Energy Center is that it provides a prime opportunity to present different forms of energy supply and usage."

    – Prof. Dr. Achim Gottscheber, Dean of the Faculty, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, SRH Hochschule Heidelberg
