SAP Enterprise Services Architecture——ESA

SAP Enterprise Services Architecture – a complete service-based solution blueprint, enables enterprises to get greater business values from existing technical investments, and unprecedentedly realize enterprise-wide application of Web services. In the future, all SAP solutions will be developed based on ESA blueprint. New standards will be set up in the areas of availability, scalability, applicability and expansibility.

A great change is occurring in the business environment within China. Under the quick trend of globalization, Chinese enterprises are increasingly facing fierce competition, so they need a stronger and more flexible IT system to deal with the development pressure. ESA helps users build a set of architectures, enabling them to conduct faster R&D of new systems, and streamline the process of integrating applications and advanced technologies into their business processes. SAP Enterprise Services Architecture ( ESA) can simplify the increasingly complicated R&D and follow-up adjustment of business processes, and decrease the complexity of data. ESA is an enhanced edition of Service -Oriented Architecture. For instance, it is a software architecture that adds new flexibility to IT system design. Based on a series of widely adopted standards, it clearly defines the application rules of different software that collaborates and shares information with one another, SAP enables ESA and delivers it to customers by the innovative SAP NetWeaver platform.

Service Oriented, Ready for Business Operation, Decrease TOC

SAP NetWeaver

SAP集成化应用平台

SAP NetWeaver is a service-oriented platform, ready for business operation.

It is suitable for all SAP solutions, and in line with the way SAP provides services based on the latest Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA). SAP NetWeaver is the core of SAP solutions, and provides a comprehensive, open and flexible infrastructure that generates added values for all companies through existing IT investments.

SAP NetWeaver is designed to expand across heterogeneous IT environment. It helps enterprises integrate people, information and business process beyond technical and organizational limitations. In addition, the design of SAP NetWeaver enables complete interoperability with Microsoft .NET and IBM WebSphere ( J2EE), and provides customers with the flexibility to manage different infrastructures, reduce complexity and cut total cost of ownership (TOC).

SAP NetWeaver introduced two enhanced functions – combined application architecture and main data management, which expanded the original functions of mySAP Technology. A newly combined application architecture is built into SAP NetWeaver, which enables SAP and its partners to create new applications for cross-function business processes by tool, architecture, rule and method - including the object access layer that enables customers to abstract and create unified R&D and deployment environment from basic heterogeneous structure.

SAP NetWeaver also includes main data management (SAP MDM). SAP MDM is a standard service designed to address the data integration problem ubiquitously existing in multiple systems, locations and different suppliers. It allows companies to merge, coordinate and centrally manage the data in a heterogeneous IT environment.

In addition to these new functions, SAP NetWeaver also includes the following features:

  • Multi-channel access – Access the service systems in online and offline environments over Web or mobile.
  • Enterprise portal – Unified, role-based, internal and external user interfaces for Web browser.
  • Collaboration – Real-time and synchronized exchange among people in an appropriate or free manner.
  • Business intelligence – The infrastructure used to abstract, summarize and analyze structured information across an enterprise.
  • Knowledge management – Unify multiple unstructured information sources. For example, document management, file service, XML transfer etc, to provide and manage knowledge.
  • Integrated agent – Internal and external processes integrated based on XML information.
  • Business process management – The design, R&D, execution, supervision and management of the wide range of business processes across an enterprise.
  • J2EE/ABAP –Local Web services implemented and developed in J2EE or ABAP environment and the expandability between Microsoft .NET and IBM WebSphere.
  • Independence between OS and database – Open and operateable on all related platforms.
  • Lifecycle management – The security, R&D, combination and modeling, test, deployment and management of the whole software environment.

SAP NetWeaver Decreases Total Cost of Ownership

Currently, a key challenge in reducing service costs is integration. For current heterogeneous environment, customers who choose best-of-breed technologies are facing challenges in integrating different technologies. Customers must enable different technologies to collaborate with one another. This integration challenge not only exists in the initial phase but throughout the lifecycle of the solution. Alternatively, integrated platforms such as SAP NetWeaver minimize the customized integration, which significantly reduces TOC.

Another cost factor is that multiple technologies, as well as the different formats of multiple independent software suppliers must be integrated. SAP NetWeaver not only provides comprehensive interoperability at all levels (people, information and process) between .NET and WebSphere but also integrates with third party applications via its open architecture and platform partner network. Additionally, SAP NetWeaver enables customers to maximize existing skills of all IT departments – thus reduces the costs for employee recruitment, retainment and training. When delivering service solutions with SAP NetWeaver, SAP preconfigures service contents for these solutions, such as role, classification method, report, query and business process template. Therefore, customers can significantly accelerate their speed of creating values.

SAP NetWeaver-Based Enterprise Solutions

SAP NetWeaver is built on vast experience of the global leading provider of enterprise solutions, and leverages the comprehensive experience SAP accumulated by helping over 19,000 companies manage their business challenges. It includes the following features: usability (availability), changeability (applicability and expandability) and scalability. In a separate or general view, these factors are critical to the costs – SAP NetWeaver is designed to reduce customers' TOC.

In the future, SAP Netweaver will be the basis of all SAP solutions. All new applications and solutions will be developed in line with ESA blueprint, while SAP NetWeaver will be the basis of the platform.

Our work covers the complete product lifecycle management - from definition, design, R&D, configuration and optimization, promotion, to partner support.
