McCoy and Partners has collaborated with University Racing Eindhoven (URE) to create a dashboard which displays sensor data of their racing car. This dashboard is used during races and testing, to instantly see the most important measures of the car, and as such, to approach the limits of the car, the driver, and the track.
To create the app, a design thinking approach was taken. With user-centered design workshops we uncovered the needs and wants of the race-performance engineer, and the test engineers. In architecture workshops we discovered the optimal ways to send the data from the car to the cloud. And with data modeling workshops we created the design for the data models, and calculations.
The sensor data is collected in a Raspberry Pi and send to McCoy’s SAP HANA platform on AWS cloud. Two tables are filled with information from the car, (1) sensor data, (2) messages. The dashboard is built as a webapp in SAPUI5 with the WebIDE, and runs also on the SAP HANA platform. The development team shared a Github repository for shared development of the app. The app consumes the data via oData services, and also allows for creating meta data about the race / test.
