Program productions, especially those in television, are usually highly individual projects which can vary immensely in terms of complexity and usage of time and resources. In addition to permanent employees, much of the work is done by freelancers and small to medium size service providers, usually on a contract basis. Many productions are entirely or partially outsourced as order productions. Specific commercial challenges are associated with management of costs and time, resource deployment planning and streamlined efficient procurement of external production services. Order productions often involve detailed contractual definition of services to be delivered by and rights granted to each partner.
