SAP Answers provides a powerful source of knowledge to anyone who has an unanswered question.

Before asking a question -- or responding to one -- please familiarize yourself the with following:

Find the answer before even asking!

Before you jump into asking a question on SAP Answers, ask yourself first, “Could it be that someone already had the same problem?”

If the answer is “Yes” (and most likely it is), then check out the wide range of tools that SAP provides to help you to find your answer.

First try the Find Questions & Answers search. Explore the rest of the community, as you can find useful information in the blogs section and on community topic pages as well. You can learn more about community topic pages and the other areas of the SAP community on the About SAP Community page.

You can also search and browse the Community Archive, a huge knowledge base of previous SCN Discussions and Documents.

If you'd like to search all of, including SAP Community, please visit the site's search page.

Outside of SAP Community (and, check out any possible F1 helps, books or online documentation. Browsing or searching on the official SAP Help portal could answer most of the questions regarding default system behavior, software products, and system logic.

If after reading the default system behavior you still think it is a bug and you are using the standard SAP coding without modifications, try looking for Knowledge Based Articles (KBAs) or SAP Notes to get the official answers from SAP.

Finally, try to search on the Internet. All public SAP content is available via different search applications (e.g., Google) and there are many websites where SAP experts collaborate. 

If you've taken the appropriate steps outlined above and you still can't find the answer you need, then continue with the next step below.

If you have followed the instructions above for searching for an answer, and you still can't get what you need, you may ask a question. But when posting a question, make sure to outline the steps that you took to find the answer.

You can start asking questions easily by clicking on your avatar in the header area and selecting “Ask a Question” (see example below):


When you start asking a question the system automatically searches for similar questions from SAP Answers and archived SCN Discussions and will list the results on your screen while you are typing:



To avoid duplicated questions, these results can come from two places: from the live questions of the SAP Answers platform and from the archived SCN Discussions.

If the answers provided by the search do not match your question, fill in the details as precisely as possible to get the best answer faster. Read on to get more information about how to ask the perfect question.

Choosing your topic

The first and most important thing to do is choosing the right topic for your question. Selecting the right tag helps the experts find the question easier.

SAP provides you a wide range of tags that you can assign to your question. Just start typing and you will get the results to select from. Read All About Tags for more information about using tags in general.

We differentiate between three types of tags:

  • Primary Tag – the main topic of your question, from a selection of SAP-governed tags.
  • Secondary Tag – additional SAP-governed tags that will help other users to find your question easily.
  • User Tag – any other tag that will help users to find your question easily. You can create one or choose from the existing set created by other users.

Get faster answers – ask the perfect question

An important step is to follow and adapt the Rules of Engagement.

Here is a checklist with tips and tricks to ask the perfect question:

  • Pick a suitable title. This is the first thing that people will read when they see your question. Try to give a short but informative description (recommendation is 75 characters or fewer) that will catch the attention of the readers.
  • Structure your question. Think about how you would compose the question by keeping the balance: what are those key pieces of information that are important for the responder to be able to answer? Be specific and clear. If your question is longer than a few sentences, break it into paragraphs for easier reading.
  • Share your own research. Tell what you already did to find the solution (e.g., used Find Questions & Answers search, searched SAP Notes) and explain why it did not help.

Support Other Community Members: Comments vs. Answers

In our new Questions & Answers platform there are two ways you can help other community members with their questions: by leaving Comments and providing Answers.

So what's the difference?

You should leave comments when you think the poster should clarify a question, provide more information, or post images that might illustrate the problem. The purpose of comments is to coach the poster so that you and other community members can better understand the question and offer the best possible answer. Speaking of which...

You should leave an answer that you believe provides a solution to the poster's problem. The poster, in turn, should mark your answer as correct (if it is correct) or share additional details to explain why the question hasn't been answered yet. Once a question is marked as answered, it becomes a resource that can help other members who search the community later fo a solution to the same problem. As a result, it reduces the number of redundant questions. 

Using comments and answers together with well written/descriptive questions will enable us to create a high-quality knowledge base that will enrich and serve our community members.
