SAP Business ByDesign: sourcing project services. In this demo, you'll see how the SAP Business ByDesign solution enables you to leverage project management functionality to source services for your project, and simplify project procurement. In this example, project manager Bob Menson logs on to SAP Business ByDesign to add resources to a project he is managing. One of the team members assigned to a critical phase of the project will not be able to work for several weeks due to a sports injury. Since no other internal staff members have the expertise needed for the job, Bob uses the SAP Business ByDesign solution to source external help. In the project management work center, Bob goes to the project view and highlights the project requiring additional resource support. He clicks on the edit button and selects work and requests from the drop down menu, which opens a screen where he can maintain the project. From here, Bob selects the work and requests tab and opens a purchase request with the click of a button. When the purchase request screen opens, the project task field is already populated. Bob estimates the assignment will require 60 hours of work, so he enters that amount in the requested field. Next, he selects Joe Johnson from a list of approved contractors that appear in a pop-up menu after he clicks the service agent field. Bob completes the task by closing the purchase request, noting the message at the bottom of the screen that his request has been created. His request has been sent to the company’s HR department, which will immediately start the process to get Joe on board. As you have seen, the SAP Business ByDesign solution makes it easier to manage projects and source services by enabling you to initiate purchase requests directly from the online project management environment.
