- SAP Master Data Governance: Empowering business users to make material data changes while upholding data standards.
- This demonstration shows how the SAP Master Data Governance application allows you to access centralized functionality to
- create a workflow-driven change request, and approve material data changes while complying with data standards
- Enabling you to empower business users to make material data changes, ensure the quality of master data,
- and comply with data standardization and governance requirements.
- Create a workflow-driven change request.
- John Miller is a product management specialist and is responsible for initiating master data changes.
- John opens his SAP software to request a change to the company’s material data.
- Product management has decided to change the classification of one of its items – a pump – from “special design” to “standard design.”
- The software lets business users like John make changes to material master data, while ensuring that the change complies with pre-defined data
- standardization and governance rules.
- John starts by searching for the material he needs to change.
- He can search for the data several ways, including a full-text search or a direct search from a drop-down menu.
- Since he knows what he’s looking for, John types in the item name.
- The search produces one result, which John identifies as the correct material by looking at the data attributes.
- He selects the material and clicks the change button.
- First, John needs to complete mandatory fields in the change request form.
- He adds a description, sets the priority, and adds a due date and a reason for the change.
- Next, to change the item’s classification, John needs to modify two additional fields.
- He expands the options and chooses the appropriate value for the laboratory where the pumps will be assembled.
- He then changes the product hierarchy, following the same procedure to choose a value.
- John adds a note for Maria Fuller, who is responsible for approving the change.
- Before submitting his request, John wants to make sure that he completed everything correctly.
- The software confirms that he has followed all of the change-request steps appropriately,
- ensuring that this change is in compliance with the company’s data governance rules.
- He can now safely submit the request for approval.
- Once the request is submitted, the software triggers an automated workflow which channels the request for approval.
- Approve material data changes while complying with data standards.
- Maria Fuller is a data steward and is responsible for checking and approving changes to the company’s material master data.
- When Maria opens her SAP Master Data Governance software, she sees the change request from John.
- Maria selects the request and reads John’s note in a preview pane.
- As she begins the approval process, the software leads her to the material data requiring the change.
- She is immediately able to verify the changes by viewing the fields with the new information.
- But Maria wants to get a closer look, so she drills down into the change request documentation for more detail.
- She can see all of the changes John has made – as well as the old, and new, values.
- Everything appears to be accurate so Maria will approve the request.
- She adds a note to document her decision.
- The software’s role-based configuration provides Maria with access to administrative data fields, where she can add her comments.
- Maria activates the approval and the request is released.
- The software confirms that Maria has successfully activated the change, which will trigger any other predefined
- processes to update the data throughout the enterprise.
- The software sends John an e-mail message indicating his request has been approved.
- A link in the message takes John to his list of change requests, where he selects the appropriate change request number.
- John reads Maria’s note and is pleased with how quickly and easily the change was populated throughout the enterprise.
- SAP Master Data Governance centralizes master data management and empowers business users to make material data changes
- while ensuring quality and data governance standards.
