    • SAP Extended Diagnostics by CA Wily. SAP Extended Diagnostics monitors complex Java and .NET Web applications to detect problems before they affect users. This demonstration shows how SAP Extended Diagnostics allows you to view performance dashboards, identify performance problems, and perform root-cause analysis. Enabling you to quickly resolve problems with your applications, avoid costly system outages, and optimize application availability and performance. View performance dashboards. Martin Schumann works in application support. He uses SAP Extended Diagnostics to view custom dashboards and ensure that the IT infrastructure and mission-critical business services are meeting performance goals. The software lets him build and configure custom dashboards for every user group. So everyone from business managers to operations managers to developers can view performance dashboards that are useful to their roles. Identify performance problems. Martin's company has just upgraded its employee portal in SAP ERP. Martin receives an automated e-mail notification about a potential problem with user address updates. He sees that response times for address changes are exceeding the predefined threshold. He also sees that the status is changing from green to yellow to red. Martin drills down to investigate. He can see how often the address transaction is being invoked and how many errors are occurring. He can also access historical data to determine whether the behavior is unexpected or a recognized trend. Martin analyzes the alert notifications and thresholds to determine which team members were notified and confirm that a service-level agreement has been exceeded. Perform root-cause analysis. Martin has identified which areas of the application are having issues. He can now use SAP Extended Diagnostics to isolate the source of the problem. He uses the transaction trace tool to monitor transactions as they flow through a Java Virtual Machine or a .NET Common Language Runtime. The summary view shows metrics for the transaction components. Metrics include the path, the number of calls, the length of calls, and the minimum, average, and maximum call times. Martin then switches to the trace view to trace all the components in the transaction. He can see the calling relationships among components, as well as the transaction sequence over time. He sees that a function call is taking more than 75% of the total transaction time. He clicks on the component to launch the investigator tool. He selects Average Response Time and Concurrent Invocations, which show that there are too many requests waiting for this function and that the response time is slowing. Martin has determined that this is the source of the bottleneck. Later, after he has pointed the development team to the specific remote function call to be fixed, he can see that the issue has been resolved. SAP Extended Diagnostics allows you to quickly resolve problems with your applications, avoid costly system outages, and optimize application availability and performance.
