SAP Announces Global Support of Windows Server 2003 and 64-bit SQL Server

Windows Server 2003 and 64-bit SQL Server to Offer SAP Customers Better Manageability, Enhanced Performance, and Lower Total Cost of Ownership

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - April 24, 2003 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced its global support of 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 and key features of SQL Server 2000 (64-bit). By offering SAP® solutions on the new platform, customers will benefit from better manageability, enhanced performance, and lower total cost of ownership in all versions of Windows Server 2003. The new 64-bit SQL Server version will offer unprecedented scalability and performance for SAP solutions on the Windows platform. The announcement was made at the worldwide launch event of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Visual Studio .NET 2003.

“SAP is proud to be a global sponsor of today’s Microsoft launch event and offer support for the Windows Server 2003 family of servers,” said Rolf Mueller, development manager for Microsoft Platforms, SAP AG. “Our commitment and support reflects our successful, long-term global relationship with Microsoft, and we look forward to working with Microsoft in deploying SAP solutions on Windows Servers 2003. Having SAP solutions readily available on this platform will make it even easier for our customers to maximize business value, and enable them to run our solutions on a secure, reliable, and scalable platform for applications and network services.”

SAP R/3® Enterprise is available today on Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit). mySAP™ Supply Chain Management (mySAP™ SCM) and SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer (SAP APO) also can now leverage the new 64-bit scalability of the Windows platform. Additionally, key SAP and Microsoft partners will offer technology and services for SAP solutions running on 64-bit versions of Windows and SQL Server. For instance, SAP customers using the joint solution can fully leverage the new Intel Itanium processor architecture.

“We are thrilled that SAP is participating in our product launch today, and providing global support of Windows Server 2003 and the 64-bit SQL Server,” said Stan Sorensen, director of SQL Server at Microsoft. “Microsoft’s strategic relationship with SAP offers our joint customers tremendous value, and we look forward to advancing our alliance by extending the superior benefits of SAP solutions on the renovated MS platform.”

SAP and Microsoft have been engaged in a successful global technology alliance since 1993, based on the original release of SAP solutions on the Windows platform. SAP and Microsoft started working together on the 64-bit SQL Server in 1999. Already in 2001, SAP offered a First Customer Shipment (FCS) program for early adopters of SAP solutions running on 64-bit versions of Windows and SQL Server. SAP NetWeaver™, the integration and application platform used across all SAP solutions, provides full interoperability with Microsoft .NET. Microsoft also runs SAP solutions in production on pre-release Windows and SQL Server as shipment criteria for the products.
