FIRST LEGO League
With the mission of instilling an enthusiasm for science and technology in the next generation, FIRST LEGO League (FLL) combines science and fun by engaging youngsters in robotics design, scientific research, and tournament competition. Open to children and teenagers aged 10 to 16, FLL was developed in a partnership between the U.S.-based nonprofit organization, FIRST, and the LEGO Group.
FLL is SAP's first global program to support employee volunteerism. An international program, FLL enables employees from around the world to engage with their communities to help children explore their own creativity and develop both individual and team-building skills. Through the program, our employees participate as coaches and mentors in team competitions. FLL teams consisting of five to ten youngsters are open to children of SAP employees, friends, and family, as well as to children from neighborhood schools. SAP provides the necessary equipment for the teams.
The 2009 competition theme is "Smart Move: Transforming Transportation." In this journey, teams will consider many modes of transportation beyond their daily routine and streamline options by making "smart moves." More than 215 SAP FLL teams from 29 nations will participate in this year's competition.
