SAP Ambassador Andy Roddick Wins SAP Open

SAP ambassador tennis pro Andy Roddick recently took his third SAP Open title in five years – and the 24th ATP title of his career. With a trademark ace on match point, Roddick defeated Radek Stepanek in a tight final 6-4, 7-5.

Poised to continue his momentum after his victory, Roddick stated, "You want to build on this and use it. If you get through a couple of tough matches like I did this week, it gives you an opportunity to go on a hot streak. I think maybe I got my foot in the door as far as that's concerned, and now I need to build on that."

SAP Open: Distinctive History

SAP is particularly proud to be associated with the professional sport of tennis. Our association with this dynamic sport rivals our other partnerships. The SAP Open in San Jose, with an incredible heritage, is among the most prestigious events in the tour calendar of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the men's professional tennis players' association.

With a long, exceptional history, the SAP Open was once known as the Pacific Coast Championships. When tennis' Open era dawned in 1968, the tournament's growth accelerated, and it attracted a number of notable sponsors. SAP is proud to sponsor a tennis tournament with such a notable history.

One of the oldest tennis competitions in the United States, the SAP Open draws some of the most talented athletes from the ATP circuit. These players represent the best in professional tennis, and join a prestigious roster of past champions that includes John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, and Andre Agassi.

Over the last 30 years, many players who made their first big splash at this event as teenagers rapidly went on to win a Grand Slam. Within a year of reaching the finals or winning here, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg, and Michael Chang all won Grand Slam titles.

SAP salutes the determination and skill of these gifted athletes. They share the same winning qualities – agility, precision, and speed – that have helped make us the world's leading provider of business software. Like this tournament, SAP has become a major presence in the Silicon Valley, with thousands of dedicated employees who develop the innovative solutions that help businesses run better.
