Roddick's Third Victory in 2008: Dubai Championships
SAP ambassador tennis pro Andy Roddick has capped a magnificent victory by beating unseeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (8-10) 6-4 6-2 to win the Dubai Championships, his third win in 2008 so far. He claimed victory over world number two Rafael Nadal and world number three Novak Djokovic en route to the final.
"This is as well as I have ever played. With these great players, to finish a week like this is just great," he said.
Roddick also earned his 25th career title and his second of the year after recently winning for the third time at the SAP Open. Winning his third SAP Open title in five years – and the 24th ATP title of his career Andy Roddick recently defeated Radek Stepanek in a tight final 6-4, 7-5 – with a trademark ace on match point.
Roddick predicted and is poised to continue his momentum. "You want to build on this and use it. If you get through a couple of tough matches..., it gives you an opportunity to go on a hot streak. I think maybe I got my foot in the door as far as that's concerned and now I need to build on that."
In recent years, SAP Ambassador Andy Roddick has become one of the most celebrated athletes in the United States. He won the 2004 ESPY for Best Male Tennis Player and was nominated again in 2005. In 2003, he was honored by the ATP as the Player of the Year when he became the youngest American to become number 1 in the ATP world rankings. Roddick won the U.S. Open that same year, and it's surely only a matter of time before he adds more Grand Slam titles to his name.
Like all SAP ambassadors, Andy Roddick is committed to his sport and to helping others. He recently received the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award for his charitable efforts and contributions through the Andy Roddick Foundation. The foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all children, based on the principles of respect for family, education, and morality. With the motto of "Helping Children Today for Tomorrow," the Andy Roddick Foundation has raised more than US$5 million so far for children in need.
Andy Roddick truly personifies the skill and dedication to performance that make SAP the leading provider of business solutions.
